You’ve heard of weekending in the country, but this couple spends weekends in the city. Get a peek into their urban getaway.
Living in the country has advantages, but the owners of this property wanted to spend their weekends in Covington’s vibrant, walkable MainStrasse Village neighborhood. So they bought an 1890’s house and renovated it into four Airbnb units, saving the third floor for themselves.
They had a lot of fun blending styles in the rental units, including contemporary lighting, a bright red, mid-century kitchen and an island made from the floorboards of an old bowling alley.
For their own unit, they took advantage of the interesting rooflines and carved out a generous kitchen and living area, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. They continued the mix of new and old, repurposing some dramatic window trim that was salvaged from a law office. They also built open kitchen shelves out of wood from an 1890’s warehouse.
Future plans include adding a small deck off the master bedroom and a larger roof deck, which will have views of the Cincinnati skyline.
