The Firehouse
Constructed in 1888, Covington’s CFD Engine Co. #4 was removed from service in 1983. At that time, owner and local artist T. Mark Kohlhas with the help of architect Andrew Piaskowy, converted the historic structure into a two-family residence. CJ and Cindy Novack purchased the 127 year old building and made it their home. Formerly an industrial space, the upstairs is now a single-family, open-floor, loft-style residence with 15-foot ceilings, multiple skylights, and an elevated loft bedroom. The lower level consists of a garage that can park more than six cars, a laundry room, workshop, bathroom, and personal CrossFit gym. The structure has many of the original windows and hardwood floors, which have since been refinished. The Firehouse is a testament to the diverse product offerings in the River Cities.
